Ted graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Option) in 1988 and is a registered professional engineer in several states. Upon graduation Ted designed, developed and tested high voltage and high current devices. He was also involved in the design of lightning arresters for power systems. Ted was published in the IEEE Power Delivery Transactions for his work with the ANSI standardized testing of connectors and received four US patents for his high voltage designs. Ted’s experience also includes manufacturing where he worked closely with the complexities of manufacturing and served two years as a team leader troubleshooting and improving manufacturing process and reducing product defects.

Since joining Schaefer Engineering Ted has been involved in electrocution/electric shock analysis, product failure analysis, substation failure analysis, residential/commercial fire scene electrical evaluation, and vehicular fire losses.

Ted is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Ted’s background includes work with electrical field analysis, high voltage splices, high voltage terminations, lightning arresters, single phase, three phase, and DC electrical motors, single phase and three phase transformers, and rectification systems. Ted also has extensive hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repair of a variety of household appliances, audio/video equipment, home electrical systems, HVAC equipment and automotive electrical/mechanical systems.
